 Synopsis:
In a tightly knit community of South Asians in South
Africa, the people live in limbo between the stark racial
poles of apartheid. They have been able to carve out a
delicate peace with the exception of Amina. She is a
rebel. In fact, she owns a cafe that serves all the
neighborhood social outlaws. It is the only place in town
to have any fun, and of course, this infuriates the
apartheid police. However, Amina is more than a match for
the cops, but she does have other personal weaknesses.
When she first sets eyes on Miriam, she is suddenly as shy
as a schoolgirl. Miriam is married but fascinated by this
unconventional woman who shows her so much attention. In
time, Amina gains the courage to invite Miriam for driving
lessons. Alone together in the car, the two women can only
surrender to the inevitable.
